The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 10 said 7 barangays in the municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo have been cleared of illegal drugs after series of deliberations conducted by the Barangay Drug Clearing Program-Regional Oversight Committee (BDCP-ROC), said Wilkins Villanueva, PDEA-10 regional director and Chairman Regional Oversight Committee on Drug Clearing.
The committee is composed of PDEA, Police Regional Office 10, Department of Interior and Local Government, and Department of Health.
Villanueva said more barangays from Lanao del Norte will be declared free of illegal drugs soon after a series of validations. The province is comprised of two congressional districts and made up of 462 barangays.
Newly drug-free barangays are Pikinit, Tantaon, Pandanan, Sugod, Ramain, Bangco, Kirapan and Calube. Officials of SND barangays travelled to CDO and undergone scrutinization and validation of their documents by the oversight committee.
These are the following basic criteria to be meet before a barangay is considered drug-cleared: non-availability of illegal drugs, absence of drug transshipment activity, absence of clandestine drug laboratories and absence of clandestine drug warehouses.
MLGOO Alelie Palao said she was elated with the astounding cooperation and eagerness of officials in the said barangays to be declared as drug-free communities. The achievements on the war against illegal drugs of the town made possible because of the support of Mayor Ulwan Dimaporo, Vice Mayor Motalib Dimaporo, SB Members, Barangay officials all stakeholders in the locality.
