The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted an orientation on Balay Silangan Program to officials and residents of Sultan Naga Dimaporo and explained to them the objective of the program and defined their roles in its implementation.
The orientation was led PDEA personnels like Agent Vincent Cecil M. Orcales – PDEA – LDN Prov’l Officer, Ms. Juliet A. Caga-anan and PDEA agents of Cagayan de Oro City.
According to Mayor Ulwan Dimaporo he is elated that the people of SND especially those identified as drug dependents and pushers knew the guidelines in establishing reformation centers in the municipality.
“PDEA has equipped the people of SND on their role on how to have a effective facility that would help recover and reform the minds of drug dependents”, Mayor Dimaporo lamented.
“The establishment of municipal-based reformation center here is so important. This orientation helped us to to know the specific and well defined parameters of the program,” MLGOO Alele Palao said.
Establishment of Bahay Silangan is an intervention congrent with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation Number 2, Series of 2018 that aims to establish the guidelines for community involvement in reforming drug offenders of drug offenders into self- sufficient and law- abiding members of society. The regulation was approved on January 24, 2018.
Balay Silangan is an offshoot of Bahay Pagbabago, a reformation center which was originally conceptualized in the Province of Bataan.
